Field Notes

Description:

A tigermoth from the tribe Lithosiini (Family Erebidae).

Habitat:

Spotted in a large semi-urban yard & garden near a disturbed patch of remnant lowland tropical forest.

Notes:

Looks very much like Cyme (Lyclene) reticulata but there are 18 species from this genus in Papua, and images for comparison have not been located yet. I'm playing it conservatively.

Thanks J, yes an oversight, done! Thanks Adarsha!
What a beautiful moth Scott! Could you add this to my mission, "Moths of the World?" Thank you very much. Here is the link to my mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8841449
Thanks. I found links for Lyclene reticulata/Cyme reticulata and it certainly looks like that. But what I wanted to do was find images for some or all of the other 17 species of the genus in Papua, 5 of which are endemic, before I call it that species :-)
Here's a link from the BOLDsystems about Lyclene reticulata - http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxid=20639. I'm researching for a similar spotting from the Philippines (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8522304) when I saw your spotting.
