Mexican Bush Katydid
Scudderia mexicana
33.1384, -117.051
Field Notes
Description:
This light green katydid has shorter top wings than the bottom pair of wings.
Habitat:
Cape Honeysuckle bush
Notes:
I heard this one "chirp" so I turned and looked. This bush was just trimmed which exposed it. "The insects hear through organs, called tympana, located on the forelegs. In most species, the female has a long, sword-shaped ovipositor, an organ on the rear end of the abdomen, used for depositing eggs. In the angular-winged katydid the ovipositor is short and curves upward." - AnimalPlanet
