Field Notes

Description:

Bull elk wandering through a meadow.

Habitat:

Montane meadows in the Rocky Mountains.

Notes:

Spotted (the first image) in a meadow about 1 mile N of Timber Creek Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP). The four images in this spotting were in fact four spottings over three days, 20-22 Sep 2014, but they were consolidated into a single spotting to avoid multiple posts. Image/spotting 2 occurred toward the end of evening twilight in a meadow adjacent to Aspenglen Campground, RMNP. Image/spotting 3 occurred in a meadow north of Beaver Meadows Visitor Center, RMNP. Image/spotting 4 occurred next to a stream paralleling US Highway 34 between Estes Park and RMNP.
