Field Notes

Description:

A male Shikra eating a rat. Seen at the same place where I had last spotted a female Shikra ( http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8462688 ). When it saw me approaching, it gulped the prey and in the last pic we can see the tail dangling from the beak. Took some time to gulp, then flew off.

Habitat:

Seen near cultivated fields.

Notes:

Deleted one of my old Shikra spotting. Otherwise there would be too many Shikra's on my profile.

Thank you Sachin, Ashish and Leuba. Ashish, the bird was only 2 mtrs away from me that is why the shots are clear. Yes, Leuba it was a setting sun.
Very good Satyen ! - I love what looks like the reddish blush of sunlight on the bird - was it a setting sun?

Thanks Susan and Apple. Apple thanks for the suggestion on the mission. I will have some to contribute to that mission.
Great spotting. You should add these to the Hunter mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8463465
