Field Notes

Description:

Small, rotund, very familiar bird! Orange-red chest, white belly and brown all over. Unlike the much larger American robin, this little one stays during the winter months. I often hear them chirping on my way to work, I see them quite a lot. There is no sexual dimorphism, and youngsters are all brown with golden spots.

Habitat:

Widespread across the UK, in places like hedgerows, woodlands, parks and gardens.

Notes:

I wandered out to the frozen pond behind my flat, and saw this little guy in the bushes. He hopped out onto the ice, and I took some photos of him from behind some snow-covered branches (hence the random white blobs on my pictures).

Nice spotting in the middle of snow. Very cute birds.
Awww! I miss these little guys so much! They are high up on the list of things that make me feel homesick for England - right up there with a decent cup of tea & a proper Indian curry!
Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! The first one should definitely be my Christmas card for this year hehe.

Lovely shots, the orange looks too good on the white.
