Yeah!popular names are very interesting,but i like more the latin names:-) this one Monstera Deliciosa,latin Monstra Deliciosa,portuguese,it means (rufly traduce) delicious monster(femenin),it's very similar to portuguese and also funny as popular names are
Must be named like this for the porosity of the leaves

I recall a time in the 1980's when nearly every English home seemed to have one of these languishing in a pot in a dark corner somewhere!
