Field Notes

Description:

A small dark beetle ( about 15 mm long) with thin pale yellow streaks on elytra. A small red triangle was seen on the vertex between the eyes (pic 3). Pronotum was plain and dark.

Habitat:

Spotted on lilium plant but is said to feed on Eucalyptus species and species of Acacia ( reported in Tasmania).

There is a subgroup of very glossy Paropsisterna which have black base color and very shallowly convex elytra http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/270696003
Thanks Pam. I agree it's a great looking beetle Martin. Interestingly, it's not as rounded as most of the leaf beetles but has a slightly flat "back".
A terrific beetle Leuba. There must be something in the water over there. These look similar to black ones we found at My Lofty last week. Without the stripes, of course.
