Habitat:
Habitat includes: woodlands, forests, conifers, thickets, orchards, farms, and urban areas. This is a migrating bird. Chirping Sparrows can be found throughout North America, Mexico, and Central America.
Notes:
These birds are in my yard year round.
Diet: Chirping Sparrows mainly eat seeds, but can also eat insects and fruit.
Nesting: Females build the nest while males guard her. Nest materials include grass, weeds, rootlets, animal hair, and plant matter. They produce 1-3 broods per year with 2-7 eggs in each clutch.
Fun Facts: "During the breeding season, the female develops a bare patch on her abdomen that fills with fluid. This allows more efficient transfer of heat to the eggs." (Ref: https://identify.whatbird.com/obj/237/_/Chipping_Sparrow.aspx)
The oldest Chirping Sparrow on record was just shy of 11 years old.
