Field Notes

Description:

Caps about 50mm across. Split !! Weird gills with tints of pinks and orange. Dark straight stipe, pale near the top.

Habitat:

Eucalyptus based forest with a few introduced species.

agreed, it might be worth looking at other laccaria species I guess, admittedly Australian fungi are a bit alien to me (and a lot of them very beautiful!)
Thanks Lipase. Yes some similarity there but the usual problem of not recorded here. Apparently someone found one near Perth once... might as well be in S Africa.
It also bears similarities with Lacaria bicolor!
That seems a good path to check out... NZ ones look close. It seems Tas gets heaps of those but only a few sightings in Vic. These might have been a bit beyond spore print capabilities. Thanks for the thoughts... :)
Hmmm with the splitting , first thought that comes is hygrocybe..there is Hyrocybe lilaceolamellata ...gills have a deep lilac colour and are very thick decurrent , has a pale violet spore which however fades to white ...not that , that helps. ...looking at them they are very well matured ..ones in the tas field guide are fresh , but look similiar
