Field Notes

Description:

One of the Cotton Stainers, Dysdercus sp., Family Pyrrhocoridae. This one has pinker elytra with darker legs and smaller dorsal spots than a previous spotting of Dysdercus bimaculata from north-central Mexico (https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/1976246002/fullscreen). This one was on a sign post. A side view of the bug clearly shouts that he's not a good thing to eat.

Habitat:

Found along the San Vicente River, Chiflón Waterfall Park, Chiapas, Mexico.
