Field Notes

Description:

Papilionidae; Papilioninae; Papilionini; Papilio demoleus demoleus Linnaeus 1758. The synonym Papilio demoleus libanius Fruhstorfer 1908 is commonly used for this species by many websites.

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard.

Notes:

Probably spotted within two hours of eclosing from its pupa. I know this because it was stretching its wings and testing them by fluttering, without actually taking to flight. I have seen this many times, in the wild and with captive bred specimens (for release into the wild).
