Description:

Common buckeye butterflies are colored mostly brown with orange, black, white, and blue. The forewing features two orange bars and two large black eyespots outlined in orange. The hindwing has two eyespots, with the upper one being the largest and containing a magenta crescent. They also exhibit green overtones and have wings that span between 2 and 2.5 inches.(Wikipedia)

Habitat:

Spotted at Mt. Magazine State Park.

Wow Mark. Fungus on the brain sounds like a good shot at the 2019 foto of the year. Definitely sounds shows a relationship between species. I don't suppose you could get a picture :-) Beautiful shot Brian.

Nice specimen. I wonder about the evolution of Junonius genus they seem to be worldwide, similar but different and yet localised. Hmm... ;-)
