Field Notes

Description:

A single coin sized insect found on the road, conspicuous by its vibrant colour on its wings and the conpicuous head which looks like a contruction worker's yelow helmet! Many report from different countries (USA, Holland, India) that these insects are very damaging to houses as it bores circular holes (just as big as to put in the front of a finger) on any wood work (eg walls and pillars).

Habitat:

I found this insect on the road near my house in Salt Lake, northern new and well vegetated part of Kolkata city.. There were no other such bees nearby
