Field Notes
Description:
The head, thorax, and first two abdominal segments are black, while the remainder of the abdomen is red with two bright yellow spots on the third abdominal segment.
Habitat:
Much of the US except the northwest. Adults take nectar and may also feed on juices from beetle prey. Larvae are parasites of scarab beetles, mainly June and Japanese beetles.
