Description:

The lichen was green with pine needles off a oak tree and it was also growing down at root level and it looks a lot like moss and mold that grows on wood and rocks and it looks a little white too.It is a type of fungi the grows on trees and rocks.It is growing on really woody and dry bark of a oak tree.it had a mossy/leafy texture.

Habitat:

We went out 1-18-12 the temperature was 1.7 degrees C and it was 12:00pm noon,the wind speed was 40 kph and the gusts were 60 kph it snowed two nights before about 15 centimeters then it rained the night before we went out so it froze over it was icy I found it at Massabesic Middle School in the woodsy area.The type of lichen is called Foliose lichen.It can also grow on really old trees because they can’t grow on one that still are growing because they move they fall off and die.

Notes:

They are considered fungi because they can’t make their own food.Some fungi is very toxic because it has Vulpinicacid. The main body of lichen is called Thallus.They are mainly made of fungi and algae.
