Description:

This is a large fly shaped insect. It measure about 3/4" long. This is the second one I have seen in the last month. It came to take a drink at the areas only water source. It took off immiediately with the sound of the shutter of my camera.

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica half way through the six month dry season.
