Field Notes

Description:

"Forewing is gray with heavy black bands. Hindwing is brownish gray with no markings. Caterpillar Hosts: Various pines including red pine (Pinus resinosa), pitch pine (P. rigida), and Scotch pine (P. sylvestris); and American larch (Larix laricina)."

Habitat:

Mixed northern hardwoods forest with pines and conifer-hardwood swamps with American larch are present.
