Description:

growing on smaller trees, shot taken at winter conditions (leaving the trees with no leaves unfortunately for identification)

No, definetely not a wild/dog rose. And I also don't think it is a Japanese Crabapple...the fruits on the spotting grow much closer to the twigs. As I said, I guess I have to wait for spring and the blossoms...
Then maybe Malus floribunda if they have that size.. The three also looks more like that...
Thanks Jeannette, but it was definetely no Hawthorn. I know them well, but this one was different - the fruits are at least double sized of hawthorn pomes if not triple size. I have to have a look on that in spring or summer when it wears leaves. Thanks again for suggestion.
Have you opened one of the fruits? Look if there is only one seed. If it has more than one seed it is this one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crataegus_laevigata
