Description:

Large butterflies with patterns on wings that resemble the eyes of a large predator bird. Even the coloring of the wings look like an owl's plumage. The tops of the wings of this butterfly can vary dramatically. Unless they are flying, I found it difficult to catch them still with their wings open for very long.

Habitat:

Cockerell Butterfly house @ the Museum of Natural Science in Houston, Texas
