"Our smallest dabbler. Male's chestnut head has dark green ear patch outlined in white. Female distinguished from other female teals by smaller bill and largely white coverts that contrast with mottled flanks. A fast flying, agile duck." (from National Geographic Guide to the Birds of North America edited by Jon L. Dunn and Jonathan Alderfer)

Habitat:

Eastern edge of Southeast Water Recharge Pond at Chandler Veteran's Desert Oasis Park in Chandler, Arizona USA.

Notes:

We found this duck grouped together with some Cinnamon Teals, Northern Pintails, Black Necked Stilts, and a pair of Canada Geese.
