Field Notes

Notes:

My wife spotted this guy as we were driving by the ranger station at a local Metro Park. I pulled the car off the road and got my camera out of the trunk. The raccoon was rooting around in the grass and dirt near the building, and looked over at me as I snapped off my first shot. We looked at each other for about ten seconds before he scurried off to the side of the building. I returned to the car, and seconds later he went to the same spot and continued rooting around. There must have been something about that spot. : )

Looking at the picture again... he looks like he is hairbrushed regularly!
@Ilya Bezdelev - I cannot imagine having to see one in the zoo. In most parts of the Unites States, raccoons are considered pest as they get into the garbage bins and destroy things. He is a cute little guy though.
The raccoon is one of my favourite mammals. I am jealous to people who have a chance to see it in the wild! I have only seen them in zoos. Nice shots, by the way!
He doesn't look too happy! Great spot!
