The European larch is a larch species native to the mountains of central Europe. Unlike other members of the Pinaceae family it has deciduous needles which turn yellow before falling in winter.

Habitat:

The trees shown here were found in the Swiss Alps at an altitude of 2000m. The European larch is among the tree line trees in the Alps, reaching 2400 m altitude, though most abundant from 1000–2000 m.

Notes:

Pictures taken last year at the first snow fall. The trees had just started to turn yellow.
