Description:

The Common Cerulean (Jamides celeno) is a small butterfly found in India belonging to the Lycaenids or Blues family.

Like many tropical butterflies, this species shows seasonal polyphenism, with the appearance differing between adults according to the season.

Notes:

Tiny butterfly, maybe 2 cms with wings closed. Greyish blue inside the wings. It kept close to the ground.

Hey, no problem with getting the wrong ID, that's the way we learn! Thank you for all your help. Hopefully there are still many different species in my garden that I haven't seen yet that you can help me to identify!
agree with you, then this one is Common Caerulean (dry season form). sorry for the wrong ID.
Nuwan, looking at this butterfly again... Couple of things bother me. There are only 2 stripes on the wing, and the body isn't furry. Wonder if it could be this, instead...? http://www.learnaboutbutterflies.com/India%20-%20Jamides%20celeno.htm what do you think?
It seemed to be more blue, not so much brown, but I didn't see it so close up. It flew quite swiftly darting here and there.
well i'm not confident about my suggestion so let's wait untill someone confirms it anyway i'm sure its one of lineblues http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-71Odcoz0_b8/TvQN_EzXEmI/AAAAAAAAG2U/WDrGWhRD164/s1600/common-line-blue-2.jpg is this the Greyish blue you saw?
thanks Nuwan. Can you tell whether it is male or female?
I like the little string like bits on the back of the wing!
Yes, I do. I'll post some photos on Flickr one of these days and send you the link... And it's big enough to walk round, with lots of different sections between the buildings. There are also 2 samadhi's in the compound. Devotees of Ramana Maharshi. That might attract the butterflies - a sense of peace!
You must have a wonderful garden to attract all these butterflies.
thanks for the comment Argybee. i changed the front picture, just for you!
