Description:

Squirrel I believe to be a California Ground Squirrel with what appears to be a very long tail.

Habitat:

Rocks at Daley Ranch

Notes:

Is it the lighting that makes it look extra long?

There use to be a great list of mammals in San Diego but the museum removed it. Of course when I moved to get closer, it ran off. Such is the luck of the dog-walking hiker :)
The ranger on Mt Diablo told me that we also have hybrids of Fox and Gray. The gray are the originals and the fox were brought in.
I don't believe we have Beldings. It looks like we have both Eastern and Western Gray's, Eastern Fox and Cali Ground Squirrels.
Cindy,from what I can see it has an alert posture. Look at it's ears.Does it's tail seem tri colored? Do you have Beldings Squirrels out there?Looks smaller than the S. Beechyi out here.Just a feed back ,not a suggestion.!
