Field Notes

Description:

This scarce copper was found resting on a thistle in the late afternoon. When resting, this species is often found sitting near the top of grass stems or dead flowerheads with its head facing downward, a posture used by Blues and other Coppers.

Habitat:

On a thistle on forest edge, alt. 2000m ASL.

Notes:

Both male and female scarce copper have characteristic white markings on the hindwing underside which allow identification.
