Field Notes

Description:

Mayflies are insects which belong to the Order Ephemeroptera. They have been placed into an ancient group of insects termed the Palaeoptera, which also contains dragonflies and damselflies. They are aquatic insects whose immature stage (called "naiad" or "nymph") usually lasts one year in freshwater. The adults are short-lived, from a few minutes to a few days depending on the species.

Notes:

Found this one in a little stream along a mountainside nearby the Kitzlochklamm.

Thank you :) and yes indeed it's certainly from the genus Epeorus, I wasn't quit sure though first due to the moving water.
What a unique photo you caught it molting between instars. It look like the genus Epeorus sp
Possibly, going by size, maybe a dragonfly larva! Nice find!
