Field Notes

Description:

Leaf Beetle of about 5mm body length, quite conspicuous with its bright colouration. Base colour is green, with a red head and yellow bands across the elytra.

Habitat:

Found in "El Cimatario" national park, just outside Querétaro in semi-arid region of central Mexico.

Notes:

This species is a serious pest on food crops throughout its range, not limiting themselves to cucumbers. The larvae feed on roots, while the adults feed on leaves.
