Field Notes

Description:

A small black beetle with thin red lines - I could count up to eight. The lines were of varying lengths and at times, there appeared to be fainter lines within the dark elytra. The pronotum and vertex were red like red lacquer on wood.

Habitat:

Spotted under bright lights but these are said to feed on stringy bark and there are plenty of stringy bark trees around.

Notes:

Thanks to Martin Lagerway for correcting the species ID. This was incorrectly labelled as P.octolineata which is found from Sydney to Brisbane.

family: Chrysomelidae
Subfamily: Chrysomelinae
