Field Notes

Description:

This large snail can amazingly recced into its shell from the size above.

Habitat:

Tidal zones

Notes:

This species, like all moon snails, feeds on clams and other snails. The clam shells with holes drilled into the top are clams that have fallen victim to the Moon SnaIl. They lay thousands of eggs mixed with sand and mucous and the casing feels rubbery when wet but will dry and crumble if out of the water.
