Description:
Small bee-eater; green above with a yellow throat and a well defined black gorget; dull cinnamon-rufous underparts.
TWO races are common: meridionalis (widespread) has a short, narrow blue stripe just over the eye-mask and a blue top edge to the gorget; cyanostictus has a longer blue superciliary stripes joining over the bill, and a thin purplish-blue top edge to the gorget.

common in bushed and wooded grassland, open woodland from sea level to 2200m.
