olive wax cap
Hygrophorus olivaceoalbus
44.1443, -124.119
Field Notes
Description:
A fairly big mushroom, growing about 6" tall. The cap is bare and viscid, darker brown toward the center and the margin slightly incurved. The gills are white as well as the first top section of the stem--a brilliant, pure white that shines in the forest and is this species most distinctive feature. The slime on the cap is continued down the stem, a clear universal veil.
Habitat:
In the duff of mixed woods of Sitka spruce, hemlock, and Douglas fir. Coastal temperate rainforest about 3 miles from the ocean.
