Field Notes

Description:

"In breeding season, the male Golden-headed Cisticola has a golden-orange head, which is crested when calling, with a paler chin and throat, and a boldly streaked black to dark grey and golden body. The tail is black, with paler tips, and is shorter during breeding season. Females resemble non-breeding males, with buff-brown upper parts, heavily streaked black and dark brown, with a golden-buff rump and nape of neck. The underparts are cream with buff tints, the wings are black, with each feather edged buff. Young birds resemble the female but are duller." (Birdlife Australia - http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/Golden-headed-Cisticola )

Habitat:

At home amongst the grass and reeds at the waste water wetlands.

Notes:

Please check out the little video of this little one singing: https://youtu.be/zRURyk4Mv3Y (I have never been able to use the actual box where the youtube link is supposed to go). It is breeding season so I wonder if this is a male. I find they are quite a curious little bird. When I have been wandering around these wetlands I am often accompanied by their calls and songs and will generally, always see some of them perched on the grass or reeds...eyeing me off. There was a time when I had them come quite close to me of their own accord! Very cute little critters :D
