Yes, Morpho epistrophus. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16906197
Confusing in appearance. Morpho polyphemus and all associated subspecies are North & Central American (occurs from nw Costa Rica to se. Arizona, USA as a stray) http://butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Morpho_polyphemus_a.htm Morpho epistrophus ("South American White Morpho") occurs in eastern Brazil south into e. Paraguay, Uruguay & Argentina. http://butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Morpho_epistrophus_a.htm M. athena http://butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Morpho_athena_a.htm These butterflies were formerly known as M. athena, M. laertes, M. catenarius & M. titei. (M. athena & M. epistropis are likely conspecific)
Thanks a lot, Martin. I believe that this butterfly comes from this caterpillar that I spotted earlier: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7815198 according to this site: http://proyectopanambi.blogspot.com/2009/06/panambi-moroti-la-bandera-nacional-que.html
Asergio this is beautiful. There is some question about the luna subspecies but I cannot find proper info about this one. By book calls M.luna a separate species and if it is, I believe that is what you spotted.
