Great macro and spotting. Should I add that this is a female hoverfly, as males have holoptic eyes (left and right compound eyes touching at the top of the head) and this one doesn't.
According to the entomologist whose input is found on the link I supplied, Mesembrius is preferred over Helophilus (at least for this species). See also http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_flies/DroneFly.htm
This would be a wonderful addition to the Flies! mission http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8526126
Thanks. Is Mesembrius is the correct name than Helophilus?
I think it may be the same as mine http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7115250 but the text in the suggestion link says he isn't sure down to species (i.e. M. insignis)
