Description:
The differences between the two European subspecies are said to be indistinguishable in winter in the field. There is a possibility that some of these may be raised to a full species in the future.

Coastal marshes with disused saltpans
Notes:
There are 24 sub-species of this bird, of which 2 are found in western Europe, and both these come under Stonechat (European), They are hibernans and rubicola, the latter is sometimes called Continental Stonechat. hibernans is most common in the UK, Ireland, and the west coasts of France and Iberia. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/clementschecklist/downloadable-clements-ch…
