Field Notes

Description:

Large monkey with a body length of approximately 55cm / 22 in. Long prehensile tail (60cm/ 24in). Bright rusty orange color. Known for its loud choruses of roaring or howling - typically at dawn, late afternoon, and during rainstorms. Usually found in groups ranging from 3 to 9 individuals.

Habitat:

Feeds on leaves and fruits in the middle and upper levels of the rainforest. They have small home ranges and can often persist in forest fragments or gallery forests

Notes:

This photo was taken at Isla de los Monos - a rescue and refuge center for primates near Iquitos Peru.
