Leaf Miner Fly
Subfamily: Phytomyzinae
33.1384, -117.051
Field Notes
Description:
Tiny fly about 3 mm long with yellow between the brown/red eyes. On this cloudy day, the head appears gold. The rest of the fly is black with the exception of yellow at the base of the clear wings that have a nice sheen. The last image gives you an idea of the size.
Habitat:
Orange tree unopened blossom in backyard
Notes:
This is an agricultural pest, boring into leaves leaving markings on them. This damage can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7178036
