Description:

Rough-skinned newt found under log beside a stream in Coastal Redwood Forest. Skin on underside is bright orange. Lower eyelids are dark. On California Newts, the lower eye lid is light.

After careful examination of the eyes on these photos, I am changing my species identification to Rough-skinned Newt from California Newt. It turns out that both species are present in this area.
