Description:

Golden yellow flower on silver-green plant with tin leaves. "The fruit can be seen in the first and third images and "is a slender, dehiscent capsule 3–9 cm long, which splits in two to release the numerous small black or dark brown seeds." - Wikipedia

Habitat:

Along trail in mixed chaparral area

Notes:

This is native and is the California state flower.

That's an already wonderful drive even without these beauties. I think it was a good choice for the state flower!
I'll never forget the first time I drove between San Francisco and Monterey Bay and saw those beautiful cliffs full of beautiful flowers!
I agree Apple! Right now the freeways are lined with them and Lupine. The gold and purple colors next to each other are amazing. Not as tranquil as a cliff side but I'll take it :)
I just love California poppy! It is the most amazing thing to see a cliffside populated with this beautiful flower.
