Field Notes

Description:

I spotted this small Fowler's toad at the edge of my friends garage. I identified it to be very young due to its size and not having reached it's full growth potential of 3.25 inches (82 mm). Dry, warty skin and short legs. Each dark spot on its back contains 3 or more warts. Chest and belly white except for maybe one spot that I could see before it hopped away!

Habitat:

Fowler's toad is found in woodlands, meadows, prairies, ditches, roadsides, gardens, yards, sand dunes, and lake shores. It prefers areas with sandy or gravelly soil that it can easily burrow into.
