Field Notes

Description:

A small owl (19-24cm), they have long ear tufs and black rimmed facial disc. Fully nocturnal.

Habitat:

Scrub and bush, woodland with sparse ground cover. Acacia forests and savannas.

Notes:

This tiny owl was in a fork of a tree only 2m off the ground in the camping area. Apparently he had been sitting in that same spot during the day for the last week. He looked sleepy and only opened one eye when I came near his tree to get a photo!
