Here is spotting in Santa Clara Co near the borders of Alameda and Stanislaus. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/23908036
Though about the same size, the look bigger. Really awesome. They have been spreading. They were mostly found in Santa Clara Co and Stanislaus. They have been recently spotted now in Alameda Co and Contra Costa. They use to be in CCC but more or less disappeared. But they still are found on the eastern edges nearer Central Valley
amazing one! How does it look in real compared to the other wood peckers?
