Description:
The Kangaroo fern is a glossy decorative epiphytic fern as seen in photo # 1. It has leathery blue- green leaves which are deeply lobed (pinnatifid) with long stalks. The upper surface of the leaves show regular circular dimples (pic # 3) each of which correspond to a brown spore sac on the underside (pic #4).
Habitat:
Forests all through Australia and new Zealand - slightly drier areas but under full shade.
Notes:
This beautiful fern was seen growing on a stump of a felled pine tree in a nature reserve.
This fern is evergreen and perennial. It has furry brown rhizomes from which new fronds arise. Propogation is also through spores as would have been the case with this plant.
