Field Notes

Description:

Small primates (head and body = approx. 20-27 cm). Black head with a distinctive, mottled "saddle" on its backside. Most commonly seen tamarin in Peru and is widespread.

Habitat:

Diurnal and arboreal. These can be found roaming the middle to lower levels of the forests in search of insects. They prefer dense, viny habitats and are often found in groups.

Notes:

This one was photographed outside of the Explorama Lodge along the Amazon River.
