Description:

Yellow ,thistle like. Seed pods were fluffy like cotton balls.

Habitat:

totally wild . Foothills.

dw33zy,the biggest differentiating factor between the two is that, Dandelions have leaves that are basal and form a floret kind of shape at the base.

This plant's flower looks like a dandelion's, though it is not. Many plants in the sunflower family have flowers that look like this (ray flowers) and white fluffs (pappus) when they mature. It looks like some kind of wild lettuce (Lactuca genus) to me but I am not completely sure.
