Field Notes

Description:

A pale plover of sandy habitats with darker patches on face and neck (more conspicuous on breeding birds) and thin black bill.

Habitat:

Sandy beach.

Notes:

This bird is a member of the threatened Western Snowy Plover (C. n. nivosus) subspecies, and is a part of a population carefully monitored by students and professors at Humboldt State University. You can see the individualized leg band if you look closely.
