Description:

2 tussock moth caterpillars spotted on the flowering stalk of canna. I wonder if these two are of the same species. What puzzles me is the pair of black fin-like appendages on the bigger caterpillar. Orange colored droppings were strewn on the leaf below.

Thank you both for nice comments. This caterpillar is still chomping away on flower heads of another canna plant. But the smaller one is nowhere to be found.

Thanks for commenting. Would like to see further development of the smaller one, but I think it would move on elsewhere as they have almost decimated what's left of the flower heads...
How spectacular! You may see these again after the small one has molted again to determine if they are the same species. This would be a very interesting experiment.
