Field Notes

Description:

This is the first time I have seen this bird in our yard. He is a soft brown/beige color, with spots on his feathers and a black spot just under his eye

Habitat:

backyard ground

Notes:

I believe that this is a Mourning Dove...this is the first bird I have identified myself, but before labeling I wanted to make sure. So am I right?

I love Mourning Doves...
Emma, I have never stopped to looked at the birds before and we live in the country surrounded by them! My little girls and I put out a bird feeder just to see what we could see and in the last week I have seen the birds I have posted here. It has been so neat to finally see them and now we know what they are. When we are out playing and we hear a bird call we take turns guessing which bird it is! It's been a lot of fun.
Laura , I am quite amused by the fact that you have seen this for the first time! We have so many here. Though this winter I spotted doves with similar colors as yours. Pink feet ,more bluish tinge to their feathers.. Could be a juvenile,a male or just the winter plumage. Great first pic! Welcome to project Noah!
Awesome! I may be good at this after all!
Mourning Dove is correct.
