Description:
Poltys illepidus C. L. Koch, 1843 is an Orb-weaver Spider and it is the Type Species of its genus. It is mainly brownish in colour and has a rough skin. It is often called the "Rough Twig Spider". An important identifying feature is that its lateral eyes are on long tubercles and can often be seen protruding from behind its legs, when it is resting with the legs drawn close to its body for protection. Habitat:
This Tree Stump Spider was spotted in the farm, on a leaf of a Mango Tree (Mangifera indica Linn.) locally known as Mangang-kalabau. Plant information from http://www.stuartxchange.org/Mangga.html....
Notes:
This kind of spider creates an orb web at dusk - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/2025095510.... and then disassembles it at dawn. Throughout the daylight hours' it hides, on a leaf or a twig and secures itself, with some silk threads, as you can see in the above photo,
