Description:

I was hoping to find one of these and this one found me instead! This cool beetle landed on the back of my shirt while I was out walking in the park. It went into defense mode when I grabbed it off of my shirt (not realizing what it was at the time) Large beetle with elongated body. Large, prominent, eyespots on protonum. Dark, shiny black with grey speckling.

Habitat:

Meadow/grassy trail area. Gardiner County Park, New York.
